About this transcript tool

The free transcript flow checks which captions are available for the video you submit and prepares the selected captions in a private workspace. It does not download or store the YouTube video or audio to retrieve existing captions.

A single successful result can be searched, copied, viewed with or without timestamps, and downloaded in practical file formats. Each format is created from the same selected captions, so you do not need to submit the video again.

The product is designed for students checking a lecture, researchers finding a precise statement, editors preparing subtitle files, writers reviewing an interview, and anyone who needs to work with spoken content without repeatedly scrubbing through a video. The goal is practical access to the captions that already exist, not a replacement for watching the source.

Each timestamp is a route back to the video. This matters because a transcript line can lose tone, visual context, speaker identity, or a correction that appears a few seconds later. Search helps you find a passage quickly, while the source video remains the place to verify meaning and attribution.

Not every video has an available transcript. Private, removed, restricted, still-live, or caption-free videos may not work. Availability can also change when the video owner or YouTube changes the source video or captions.

Automatically generated captions can contain mistakes in names, numbers, punctuation, accents, or specialist terms. Important quotations and factual claims should be checked against the original video at the relevant timestamp.

Retrieving existing captions is not AI generation. AI Notes and AI Chat are clearly labeled and run only after you request them. They stay grounded in the selected transcript, include timestamps for source checking, and consume the published AI credit cost.

Workspace pages are not published in the public sitemap or linked from public site navigation. Anonymous workspace history becomes unavailable after 24 hours. Signed-in account history is stored for the applicable retention period and includes a deletion control.

The product works with one video at a time: retrieve available captions, read and search them, download subtitle files, create structured AI Notes, and ask transcript-grounded follow-up questions. It does not claim to search an entire channel, process playlists, or create missing speech-to-text. A capability appears only after the complete user flow works and its limits are clear.
