How to Remove Timestamps from a YouTube Transcript

Open Show transcript on the video and look for a control that hides timestamps. YouTube changes the transcript layout across desktop, mobile, app versions, accounts, and interface tests, so the same control can move or be unavailable.

If the control appears, hide timestamps before selecting the visible text. This changes the transcript display, not the words in the captions or the source video.

If the control is missing, do not delete every number manually. Use Text view to create readable paragraphs while keeping the original timed transcript available for checking.

The transcript workspace separates the timed caption view from clean text. Changing the view or timestamp setting works on the result you already retrieved, so it does not submit the video again.

Keep the workspace open until you have checked important names, numbers, and quotations. You can return to Transcript view when you need to reconnect a sentence to the video.

1. Paste the YouTube link into the form.
2. Select Get Transcript and wait for the available captions.
3. Switch from Transcript to Text.
4. Turn off Show timestamps if that option is visible for the selected view.
5. Select Copy or download clean TXT.

Choose clean TXT when the next task is reading, note-taking, writing, or analysis. Choose timestamped TXT when you want plain text that can still be traced to the video.

SRT and VTT depend on time ranges. Removing timing from those files changes their purpose and can make them invalid for an editor or player. Generate clean TXT instead of renaming or manually stripping a subtitle file.

Downloading another format from the same successful workspace does not create another transcript request. Each file is created from the selected caption language.

Captions often break speech into short lines rather than natural paragraphs. Text view joins compatible lines and removes repeated whitespace so the result is easier to read and copy.

This cleanup changes layout only. It does not rewrite the speaker's words, invent punctuation, identify speakers, or claim to correct automatic caption errors.

Read around paragraph boundaries after cleanup. A pause does not always mark a new topic, and punctuation in automatic captions can be wrong. Keep Transcript view available when meaning depends on timing or speaker context.

Numbers spoken in the video are content, not timestamps. A clean transcript can still contain years, prices, measurements, chapter names, percentages, or numbered steps, and those values should remain.

Do not use a broad search-and-replace pattern that removes every number. It can delete facts from the transcript and damage subtitle cue numbers or time ranges.

If time labels still appear, confirm that you copied from Text view or selected clean TXT rather than timestamped TXT, SRT, or VTT. Search a distinctive phrase and check the source when a number is important.
